Strength Training

• For Perfomance
• For Sport
• For Health
• For Fun
• For Life
• For Everyone

Why should you begin to train for strength?

• Stronger muscles will ENHANCE PERFORMANCE in both sports and in simple daily activities. The stronger you are the less ‘relative’ effort a given task will take.
• Muscle is your LARGEST ORGAN and the one most amenable to training. Adding muscle will BOOST YOUR METABOLIC RATE, aiding in weight management and fat loss. Muscle acts as a reservoir for sugar (glucose/glycogen) and therefore helps to maintain stable blood sugar.
• Strength training builds resilience in muscles, joints and connective tissue, LOWERING THE RISK OF INJURIES in both athletic and everyday activities.
• Training with resistance can IMPROVE MENTAL HEALTH through increases in hormones such as dopamine and endorphins. Self-esteem often improves alongside confidence.

Why should you continue to train for strength?

• Maintaining muscle mass is crucial for HEALTHY AGING. Sarcopenia (loss of muscle mass) is associated with aging but we can reduce or prevent it through resistance training.
• Maintaining BONE HEALTH. Strength training increases bone density, reducing the risk of osteoporosis and fractures from  simple trips or falls.
• Improved FUNCTIONAL FITNESS. Greater strength means you can engage with people, activities and the world in general, to a greater degree and with greater confidence too.
• Bigger, stronger muscles are associated with a LOWER RISK OF ALL MAJOR NON-COMMUNICABLE DISEASES (heart disease, diabetes, and obesity, dementia).
• Fitness training provides opportunities to connect with others through classes, gyms, or fitness communities. Maintaining SOCIAL CONNECTIONS, with people who have similar beliefs and attitudes, is essential for a long happy life.

Adam Daniels

As long as I can remember I have been interested in sport, playing team sports such as football & cricket throughout my youth. Unfortunately I suffered a broken leg, with some complications, which curtailed my own sporting progression but also allowed me to develop an interest in strength training. Once I started to see and feel the benefit it would have on my rehabilitation & sports performance I was hooked. In hindsight, I wish I had the knowledge that I do now to erase the mistakes in my own training and that’s why I’m so invested in encouraging people to become more active and providing them with the requisite support and education they require.

I’m lucky to have worked in various roles within the fitness industry, initially community based and more recently within elite sport at St Helens RLFC (>7yrs). This has provided me with the experience of working with and catering for a variety of clients, such as people looking to improve their general fitness, younger (developing) athletes & elite athletes across a variety of sports. I love the challenges that this variety continues to bring. Alongside my work at the rugby club, running my own gym and maintaining my own training too, I have gained a range of qualifications, including an MSc in Strength & Conditioning.

Life is busy with the work commitments highlighted above plus fatherhood duties to 2 young boys, however I like to enjoy myself when I can and try to find time to switch off and relax. Spending time with the family, having a beer with the lads, trying out new places to eat, visiting new places and experiencing new cultures all help me to do this. Over the past few years I’ve become invested in HYROX, as I love the concept that anyone can participate. It also gives me a purpose to train with a set goal to compete in their various events across the UK & Europe.
