Endurance Sports Coaching

The consistent application of intelligent effort

About me

I have competed in triathlon for over 20 years, with a steady progression to long distance racing after racing GB age group in Budapest, Kitzbuhel and Rotterdam. Long distance racing saw podium finishes at Ironman 70.3 Dubai and Staffordshire and an Age Group win at Ironman UK 2019, with a subsequent trip to Kona, Hawaii for the Ironman World Championships (and my 12th IM race finish). In 2023 I returned to my short distance roots and secured GB AG qualifications for the World Champs in Malaga 2024.

Coaching Journey

The realisation of my own personal racing dreams spurred my coaching ambitions and although I have continued to race I now balance my personal ambitions with a much greater ambition to share my knowledge and my philosophies with others.

My professional career saw me work for 23 years as a Physiotherapist and most recently in the role of Lower Limb Extended Scope Practitioner. During the latter period of this I also began building my coaching experience. This led me to the realisation that in all of my time working as  Physio it was indeed the ‘coaching’ that I enjoyed. Educating, mentoring, motivating both staff and patients alike. And so in 2022 I retired from my NHS role and jumped into full time triathlon coaching. I have completed BTF, Ironman U and Training Peaks courses.

Claire Williams

As a child I was very active and swam with my local swim club, but I quit when I went to university. Let’s say I enjoyed my university years and everything that came with that lifestyle. Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, I gained a lot of weight. Some years later, now determined to get fit again and lose the weight, I started running and began to eat much healthier.

With this newfound passion for sport, I was dragged along to the local triathlon club by my friend to try out one of their swimming sessions, which I loved! I signed up to the club straight away but felt as though I was nowhere near fit enough to take part in a triathlon, so I continued to attend the training sessions and volunteered at the club events.

After a while and with the support of the triathlon community, I entered my first triathlon in 2013. I was hooked! I have gone on to represent Great Britain Age Group team on multiple occasions and now focus on middle distance racing, where I have podiumed at 70.3 events.

I am a qualified and experienced Radiographer, but encouraged by my partner, I have become a personal trainer. This led me to developing strength and conditioning classes for runners and triathletes, which then presented opportunities for triathlon coaching. Triathlon is my passion in life, and I now have found a role which combines this love with a rewarding career. I want to share this passion with others. In particular I want to help people who may feel the same way I did when I first started competing; I lacked direction, made mistakes, had anxieties and can therefore relate, support, encourage and mentor my clients accordingly.

I have Level 2 BTF and Level 2 Training Peaks qualifications, and supporting qualifications / experience as a CHEK Holistic Lifestyle and Corrective exercise coach and pre/post-natal exercise coach.

Sport has always played a massive part in my life, with the majority of it being competitive (I just can’t help myself). I grew up as part of the North District & Highland Swim Teams where I raced at national level. Working with coaches from a young age taught me a lot, most importantly, it showed me the positive impact a coach can have on an individual’s life (sporting, personal and professional). This is essentially what gave me the drive to become a coach.

I have been coaching for 6 years having studied BSc Strength &  Conditioning at University where my focus was predominantly team sports.

I then went on to get my Level 4 S&C qualification, Level 3 PT certificate and began working as both a Strength & Conditioning Coach and Personal Trainer. Quite soon after, I began building a client list of endurance athletes. With whom the goal was to balance their aerobic training, reduce injury risk and raise performance levels through S&C programming. This led me to triathlon coaching and further learning; Level 2 BTF and Ironman U certification.

I have helped many triathlete’s achieve their goals, ranging from absolute beginners aiming to cross their first finish line to Ironman World Championship qualifiers. Although I have big ambitions for my own performances, my enthusiasm for coaching others to achieve their goals is even bigger. Seeing people, with the combined challenges of working full time jobs and family commitments, continue to turn up day in and day out is a huge motivation for me to continue to be the best coach I can be.

The Com-Squad

One of the foundations that Adapted is built upon is that of community. We realise that our personal time availability limits our ability to individually coach a large number of clients, whilst maintaining close relationships, timely responses to messages and high quality planning/feedback. We also wish to give many, many more people the opportunity to join our growing and flourishing community. To do so we will introduce the ‘squad package’ for 2024.

Price – £50 per month. No minimums, no tie-ins.
I feel the value of the above package far outweighs the cost but ultimately that’s for you to decide.

The effective use of community interaction, support and competition within the highly individual and time consuming sport of triathlon is vastly under-appreciated. The group structure will allow you to both train and perform at a higher level but equally to enjoy your journey as you do so.
